Global Unichip has secured orders for high-speed interface solutions targeting the monitoring system and SSD markets which are usually led by IDMs such as IBM, and it expects to grab a greater share of these markets in the future, according to company president Jim Lai. The company's 40nm solution is expected to tape-out at the end of 2009, and revenues share of its nanometer business has already reached 30%. Telecommunication applications accounted for 60% of Global Unichip's sales, and the US market contributed about 67% of the company's total revenues in the first half of 2009, Lai indicated. Although the China market accounts for only 6% of Global Unichip's total revenues currently, the company said it sees potential in the market and is being more aggressive in its deployments. The company recently appointed Chu Lung, the former Asia Pacific president for EDS company Cadence Design Systems, as its China president. The company reported revenues of NT$392 million (US$11.96 million) and an EPS of NT$1.69 for first-half 2009.
